Yuhai Anshu (Gulangyu Sunlight Rock Store) war zuvor das Privathaus von Zeng Shangyuan, einem patriotischen chinesischen Reismagnaten aus Myanmar zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts. 1909 ging er nach Singapur, um seinen Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen. Später gründete er eine Reismühle in Myanmar und avancierte zu einem der bedeutendsten chinesischen Geschäftsleute im Ausland. 1919 kehrte er mit einem großen Vermögen in seine Heimat zurück und ließ sich in der Anhai Road Nr. 38 auf der Insel Gulangyu nieder, wo er mehrere Villen im westlichen Stil errichten ließ. Die Fassade des Gebäudes erinnert an die Facetten eines Diamanten, daher der Name „Diamond Building“.
